On Friday 16th March, our Director, Carolyn Atkinson hosted the Huddersfield & District Society of Chartered Accountants Annual Dinner.
The event took place at Cedar Court Hotel, where we had over 270 guests from across the Huddersfield business community attend. This year's attendance was a record turnout, and it was fantastic to see so many people from the local community get together to support the professional and our chosen charity, Kirkwood Hospice.
We were lucky enough to have the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Gwen Lowe, attend as a VIP guest, which furthermore showed just how active the local community is.
Over the course of the night, we managed to raise £3,400 for Kirkwood Hospice; it was wonderful to see first-class generosity from the guests, and we were thrilled with the amount of money raised as this will go towards buying specialist mattresses to support the well-being of the residents at the Hospice.
Eve Pollard, who is a renowned broadcaster and former national newspaper editor, gave an after-dinner speech, where she addressed the new era for women in business in light of the Time’s Up and Me To campaigns.
Our Director and President of the Huddersfield & District Society of Chartered Accountants, Carolyn also commented;
“I want to say a huge thank you to all those that attended and helped us to raise such a fantastic amount of money for Kirkwood Hospice. This year the Hospice are celebrating their 30th anniversary, and they have been such a huge part of the community during that time, so it’s fantastic to support them.”
“As President, I have worked to engage with women as well as students and younger members of the professions in the events that the Society carries out. It was an absolute honour to have Eve Pollard in attendance; it was important to me have a female as the after-dinner speaker and Eve was the first female to have ever given a speech at this particular event.”
