SEMI-SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

SMH Sheards have a fantastic full-time Semi Senior Accountancy position available, based in Huddersfield. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our hard working and friendly team who is looking for the next step in their accountancy career. The individual will have excellent communication and people skills, as great client relationships are essential to the service that we offer at SMH Sheards. 

Job Purpose

The role will specifically involve the preparation of accounts and tax returns for small to medium sized businesses and their owners. We use Iris practice software, so existing knowledge of Iris would be useful, although not essential.

The day-to-day responsibilities for the role include:

  • Preparation of financial statements for small and medium sized limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
  • Corporation tax calculations and submissions
  • Preparation of management accounts
  • Self Assessment tax returns
  • Potential to attend client meetings and interact with directors and business owners
  • Assist with training of apprentices
  • Company Secretarial Duties (desirable)
  • Preparation of P11ds (desirable)
  • Payroll experience (desirable)
  • Any other general accountancy/administrative work as required

We would expect candidates to have good knowledge and experience of cloud based book-keeping packages such as QuickBooks and Xero.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice
  • Experience of Sage 50, Xero, Quickbooks, Iris, Sage Business Cloud an advantage
  • Strong Attention to Detail
  • Excellent Time Management Skills
  • Exceptional Communication Skills with a good telephone manner
  • Good written and technical Skills
  • Strong Prioritisation and Organisation Skills
  • Ability to Handle Confidential Information
  • Strong Record Keeping Skills

Qualifications

The position would be a perfect fit for an AAT qualified individual looking to progress their career. We would also consider offering a training contract with ICAEW or ACCA, meaning the role would be ideal for an AAT qualified person looking to progress further with their studies.

VAT & BOOKKEEPER

SMH Sheards have a fantastic full-time VAT & Bookkeeper position available, based in Huddersfield. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our hard working and friendly team who is looking for the next step in their career. The individual will have excellent communication and people skills, as great client relationships are essential to the service that we offer at SMH Sheards. 

Job Purpose

We are looking to complete our VAT & Bookkeeping team with someone who has good organisational skills, has an eye for detail, feels comfortable liaising with clients via telephone and face to face, and who is eager and willing to learn.

This job role also would include working the payroll department on monthly submissions to HMRC for wages and CIS returns. Experience with processing wages would be preferable, but training can be provided where necessary.

The day-to-day responsibilities for the role include:

  • Data entry on accounting software (Quickbooks, Dext, Xero etc)
  • Maintaining client records
  • Producing reports for clients
  • Managing and submitting client VAT returns
  • Processing standard monthly wages
  • Assisting with CIS return submissions


Our bookkeeping team plays an important role in maintaining the client relationship to SMH Sheards throughout the year and is therefore a key role for the right candidate to reflect our objective to be a friendly extension of our client’s finance team.

This is a full time role, although someone looking for part time hours would be considered.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • At least 3 years experience with data entry & bookkeeping
  • Experience of Sage 50, Xero, Quickbooks, Iris, Sage Business Cloud an advantage
  • Previous experience with payroll software would be preferable (Brightpay, Sage payroll)
  • Strong Attention to Detail
  • Excellent Time Management Skills
  • Exceptional Communication Skills with a good telephone manner
  • Good written and technical Skills
  • Strong Prioritisation and Organisation Skills
  • Ability to Handle Confidential Information
  • Strong Record Keeping Skills

For any lacking experience with payroll, training would be provided as required, whether that be specific software training, or on the job support.
