Reflection 2019

As we come to the end of the year, we like to take this opportunity to look back and reflect on the key activities.

As we come to the end of the year, we like to take this opportunity to look back and reflect on the key activities. Here we share these highlights with you;

Sheards Team – This year we saw 4 of our team head off for maternity leave. It has been a joy to meet their newborns and we look forward to watching them develop. As the practice was already growing, it has meant that we have recruited several new roles.

We recruited Kath as our payroll and tax assistant back in the Spring and Lucy joined the accounts team in the Summer. Ronnie and Kelly have joined us this month as bookkeeper and accountant, which ends our year with a great team of 21 staff. It's a pleasure to see the team grow and we can't wait for more team building days next year. Celebrating long term service in the summer was incredible, with staff having 20 and 30 years' service with Sheards, it's such an achievement and we're very proud of this.

Sheards collaboration with business – We have joined up with several businesses this year to host our Connection19 events, such as Ridley & Hall Solicitors, Tailored Mortgages, Catax, Clydesdale Bank and Natasha McCreesh.

Themes for our events covered Fraud, Navigating Change, Research & Development tax relief and tax for Property Landlords. We look forward to a busy 2020 events calendar, starting with our next Property Landlord Open Day.

Sheards Awards – We have been lucky enough to have been shortlisted for a Yorkshire Accountancy Award as Independent Firm of the Year, and SME of the year at the Examiner Business Awards, recognising our hard work and dedication to client services.

We were shortlisted as Best Small Business at the Brand Yorkshire Business Awards and announced as Eaton Smith's Business of the month in September. We were delighted to have received such prestigious recognition and look forward to continuing our hard work in 2020 which will hopefully be recognised again.

Sheards in the Community – With The Welcome Centre as our Charity of the Year, we have taken part in many fundraising activities and have so far raised over £3800. Our staff have worked really hard in supporting this charity and have had time in the warehouses to work with the volunteers and see what goes on behind the scenes. We have all been busy baking, training, networking and eating to support this good cause. We have more activities planned for the New Year so watch this space!

Sheards clients – Our clients have gone from strength to strength this year and have had the introduction of Making Tax Digital, regulation changes, as well as internal changes and digital advances. We have continued to support our clients and our advisory services have increased which helps us get to know more about their business. It has been a pleasure to invite Natasha McCreesh to run the client workshops and the feedback from these has been fantastic. We piloted the text service in the Spring with our tax clients and as it proved successful, this is now being used in other departments.

What's next for 2020 – Save the date for our next Property Landlord Open Day, 26 February 2020. The Connection20 events will be running throughout the year. The Charity Curry night will take place in the Spring and there will be a team of staff walking the Yorkshire Dales 3 peaks. Client testimonials – We have had some wonderful feedback from clients throughout the year which has been rewarding and encouraging to read, including:

  • “Excellent service from Carolyn and her team. Matthew was most helpful in hitting the year-end deadline and prompting me for information.”
  • “The team at Sheards are just fantastic; I appreciate their plain-talking, pragmatic approach. Always quick to answer questions and queries no matter how simple or complex. It's great to know that you're dealing with real people too and that you're not just another client calling into a call centre or something. Whenever anyone asks me if I can recommend an accountant – I always point them towards Sheards.”
  • “Feedback is super positive as always. The whole team is amazing, great communication and the service is impeccable no matter what the request of the financial process I'm undergoing. The only frustrations I ever really have is with the KashFlow application - which of course is not Sheards fault - but even then, Jen and Mia have managed to guide me through and liaise with KashFlow own support team.Keep up the sterling work.”
  • “I have only have positive feedback to give. Everything is explained in detail and I was happy with the entire process.”

Thank you for all your support, here's to another wonderful year ahead!
